Personal Testimony of Rev. Ken Galyean

I was attending church even before I was old enough to remember – probably from within days of being born. When I was 10 years old I walked the aisle, shook the preacher’s hand and stirred the Baptismal waters.  If you had asked me if Jesus had died on the cross for my sins or if the Bible was true I would have certainly said, “Yes!”  I knew all of the correct answers but there had been no changes in my life.
Fast forward 18 years. I hadn’t been to church in 10 years because nothing made sense anymore. I was working 60-70 hours a week and I selfishly thought I deserved to rest (kick-back) on Sundays.  I had just buried my mother and her last words to me were, “Ken, don’t worry about me. I am worried about you. You are not honoring Jesus with your life. You will never have any rest until you have spiritual peace.”
At about that same time my family received an invitation to visit Gilliam Springs Baptist Church in Arab, Alabama.  We began attending Church services, Sunday School and I even went out on visitation.  On August 25th, 1987, while attending a revival service, the evangelist preached a message just for me. In his message he stated that many people would come forward to rededicate their lives that night – but that you can’t REdedicate what has never been dedicated.  When he spoke these words God spoke to me, saying, “Ken, you know about me but you don’t know me.”  In the other ear the devil was whispering that if I became a Christian I would lose all of my friends and everyone would laugh at me.  The only thing that I can remember thinking is “I don’t care what anyone else thinks, I need Jesus.”
That night, twenty years ago, I truly gave myself to Christ and He has changed me.  I will never be the same.  From that day until this my desire is to please Him in all that I do with my life and I know the true meaning of rest.
